Asbestos Awareness

This course is aimed at giving workers, who in their fields of work may be potentially exposed to asbestos or asbestos containing material, the skills and knowledge to be able to identify asbestos containing materials and implement the necessary controls before performing work that may involve activity that will potentially liberate the asbestos fibres from their bonding material.

Duration: 8 hours (4 Hours for the Asbestos Awareness and 4 Hours for the Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials)

Student/Trainer ratio: 12:1


The 10675NAT Asbestos Awareness training and assessment will be completed and the students must be deemed competent in the morning session before continuing with the afternoon Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials course.

Who should attend?

Any persons who in their workplace who may be required to work with existing asbestos cement sheeting (AC sheet) or other asbestos containing material in and around residential dwellings and commercial premises. The training applies not only to supervisors but to everyone from apprentices up. It applies not just to builders but to the broadest range of people working on homes and property, including cleaners, architects, plumbers, labourers, landscapers, engineers, fencers, glaziers, locksmiths and professional handymen.

  • Knowledge and skills to identify when and where asbestos and asbestos containing materials (ACM) may be present
  • Knowledge of the hazards and risks associated with asbestos exposure and inhalation
  • Precautions that need to be taken is it is present
  • Reporting procedures
  • An understanding of each individual’s general duty of care
  • Worksite preparation
  • Personal protective equipment requirements
  • Safe drilling
  • Decontamination processes
